A Message From President & CEO John Ehrbar

My personal mission throughout my 26-year YMCA career has been to help people – employees, coworkers, donors, members, friends, and family – navigate and succeed on their individual life journeys. While my role sometimes comes in the form of providing development opportunities or mentoring, I believe the most powerful tool I’ve offered has been empathy.

May is National Mental Health Awareness month, which reminds me of the critical role that empathy plays in life. We all have ups and downs in regards to our psychological and emotional well-being… and we can all use a little empathy and understanding to help us through rough times.

Mental health is an important part of our overall health and social-emotional well-being. Take time this month (and throughout the whole year) to care for yourself and help others reach their full potential.

We are pleased to announce the following new members of our management team:

  • Michelle Bane, Wellness Center Manager - Delaware & William-Emslie YMCAs

Employee Spotlight

Erin Johnson - Independent Health YMCA

This month, we are pleased to celebrate Erin Johnson, a valued member of the Independent Health Family YMCA’s Aquatics team since 2014.

In addition to being an ECC Adjunct Physics and Engineering professor and mom of three, Erin generously shares her time with the Y because she loves “being able to help kids improve their skills and learn to be safe in and around water while having fun!”

Whether leading Safety Around Water swim lessons or supporting fundraising events like her Y’s Shamrock Swim, Erin’s dedication to the Y mission and the lives she touches is admired and deeply appreciated.

Investing In Our Future

You may have seen Danielle Roberts, Vice President of Community Impact, talking with media in recent weeks about our exciting plans to build a new Buffalo YMCA. This new 65,000+ square foot wellness center will enable us to provide Buffalo and surrounding area residents with greater access to critical healthy living, youth development resources, and address social challenges. It positions the Y to build a stronger community for all for generations to come.

Additional partners are being sought to help make this project a reality. If you know of any businesses that you think might be interested in supporting this project, we encourage you to direct them to Danielle at droberts@ymcabn.org.
