2021-2022 Home School Physical Education Program at the Independent Health YMCA

Welcome to the Home School Physical Education Program at the Independent Health YMCA. This program will provide the physical education portion of a home school curriculum through gym and swim time necessary to help meet the New York State Physical Education requirements. We realize how important the program is to you and your child(ren) and we strive to run a safe, quality, and educational program. Our focus will be to provide the tools and instruction designed to promote lifetime fitness in a positive and fun environment with structured sport skill training and group swim lessons. Each class will focus on a segment of the YMCA's core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.

Program Description

The gym portion of class is 45 minutes, followed by a 40-minute swim lesson. Classes will meet on Thursdays only, and will have an age-appropriate instructional focus. The gym portion of the program will cover gross motor development, object control skills, individual and team sports, strength and conditioning, and other lifetime physical activities. The swim portion will follow our safety around water program that teaches kids safety and survival skills, as well as basic swim skill and strokes. Classes will be taught by qualified instructors and overseen by the Wellness and Aquatics Directors.
